The Mayor’s office has been closed all day as a lawyer from the state has been meeting with Mayor Amundsen and a couple of unnamed state officials to discuss how the bid process is going, “irregularities” between the surveyor’s notes, and some “irregularities” in the handling of the bids. When asked for comment, a source close to the mayor said “Nuuuu-uuunh, you leave me outta this!”
The irregularities in the process seem to have arisen from a number of last minute bids being considered which are below the listed value of the property, let alone the values of the pending liens. The City Council has asked the Mayor to appear at the Friday session to discuss today’s meeting as well as the various offers on the table.
The irregularities in the survey, of course, should come as a given for most of us. The North 5 parcel could turn into a UFO and fly to mars with a semi trailer full of catnip in tow, and nobody would be particularly surprised. “Huh…” folks might likely say, “Whouldja look at that?” Some folks might go so far as to say the site is cursed. Others might offer spurious evidence of subterranean out-gassing and psychoactive local plants. Still some would say the land is angry and just wants to left alone. Any of these seem reasonable compared to the number of death and injuries that have cropped up there, even during the early days of pre-state history. It is a fact so ingrained in us that, when they opened the gravel pit, the only people that would work there were from the next town over.
So as we have noted before, considering all the bad history, it is a wonder that we have so many five and six digit bids on the old place.
Since the Jones’s have been staying so close to town since July 4th, Sheila will be moving further afield to see The Smiths. The Smiths don’t know about the little one on the way, so this will be exciting news to share. She will not be available on VHF, because they really really do not like it and have made it clear that they don’t want any of her “dangerous toys” anywhere near them.
Mr Singh has emailed to let us know that they have found booby traps beyond the South Ridge that look like they may have been set by The Scoutmaster. If you will be traveling the hills down that way, be careful of these primitive yet dangerous threats.
